4-Hydroxy-2-butanone, The components used to lure and kill bark beetle powder, combined with Ziegler Natta catalyst to form a composite, are used as catalysts and organic synthesis intermediates for stereospecific polymerization of butadiene. These are intermediates in the synthesis for fragrances such as raspberry ketone or anisylacetone.
Preparation and Use of 4-Hydroxy-2 Butanone
A synthesis method for 4-hydroxy-2-butanone, comprising the following steps:
(1) Add a small amount of butanediol 1.3, catalyst, water and water-carrying agent to the reaction vessel. Stir to create a mixture, then raise the temperature from 60 to 75 degrees.
(2) Add hydrogen peroxide in a dropwise manner with a concentration between 25-35%, distilling and dehydrating the solution as you add it.
(3) If the amount of butanediol is less than 5%, add hydrogen peroxide in drops and stir for 0.5 to 1.5 hours.
(4) Adjust the temperature of the reaction vessel, and evaporate the water-carrying agent.
(5) Reduce the temperature in the reaction vessel to 60-65 and distill to obtain the target product 4-hydroxy-2-butanone.
