Usage 1

Production of 4-Nitrotoluene
To prepare 4-Nitrotoluene, you add toluene to a nitration kettle, lower the temperature to 25 degrees, add the acid mixture, increase the temperature to 50 degrees, stir for 1-2 hour until the reaction has completed, leave it for 6 hours and then separate the nitrobenzene. Wash it in water, then wash it again with alkali. The crude nitrotoluene is composed of ortho nitrotoluene and para nitrotoluene.
Vacuum distillation is used to separate the ortho nitrotoluene from the crude nitrotoluene. The residual fraction, which contains a high amount of para-nitrotoluene in it, is then separated further by vacuum distillation. Para nitrotoluene can be obtained after cooling and crystallization. Meta nitrobenzene accumulated in mother liquor is separated from the para isomer, and then distilled into 4-Nitrotoluene.
