Description
Chemical structure: The chemical name of Basic Red 2 is 3,7-diamino-2,8-dimethyl-5-phenylphenazine chloride. The molecular structure is centered around tricyclic phenanthridine as the parent nucleus, with two amino groups serving as strong chromophores located at positions 3 and 7, respectively. Meanwhile, the 2nd and 8th positions of the benzene ring are replaced by methyl groups, and a phenyl group is attached to the central benzene ring. This highly conjugated rigid planar structure is the molecular basis for producing bright colors and strong coloring power. As a cationic dye, after dissociation in solution, the chromophore carries a positive charge.
Physical characteristics: Basic Red 2 is typically a green crystalline or reddish brown powder with a metallic luster. It is easily soluble in water, forming a red to blue red solution with strong fluorescence, and the color is bright and eye-catching. Basic Red 2 is also soluble in ethanol and slightly soluble in other organic solvents. After adding sodium hydroxide to the aqueous solution, a lake will be formed, with a lighter color or precipitation; When exposed to concentrated sulfuric acid, it turns green, and after dilution, it turns from green to red. These are characteristic color reactions.
Chemical properties of Basic Red 2: As a cationic dye, Basic Red 2 achieves staining by creating ionic bonds between its positively charged chromophore and negatively charged matrix. 1、 Traditional coloring of textiles and materials
