Description

Basic Yellow 57 is a cationic dye that we often refer to. If classified chemically, it belongs to the quinoline class of dyes. Speaking of which, its molecular structure is quite interesting. It is based on quinoline as the core “skeleton”, and then added with specific cationic groups. In this way, its color system is constructed. It is precisely because of this special conjugated structure and ionic properties that it can absorb light of specific wavelengths in visible light, ultimately presenting a bright yellow luster that looks quite eye-catching.

Speaking of its appearance, Basic Yellow 57 is usually processed into a powder, which may be dark yellow, yellow brown, or reddish brown in color, and these powders are quite uniform, without uneven clumping.

The dissolution effect of Basic Yellow 57 in water is quite good, and it can turn into a clear and transparent yellow solution when added, which is actually closely related to the cationic properties of its molecules. In addition, Basic Yellow 57 can also partially dissolve in organic solvents such as ethanol, but ultimately, its basic physical and chemical properties are mainly determined by its ionic properties and molecular interactions.

Basic Yellow 57 is a synthetic organic dye that is produced in a complex industrial process. To produce it, the dye must go through several complex steps of organic synthesis, including condensation, quaternization, and other chemical reactions. The finished product must also meet industrial standards for color, dyeing strength and water solubility. After all, downstream fields have high requirements for color quality, so we cannot be careless.

The application of Basic Yellow 57

Basic Yellow 57 is used in many industries because of its vibrant colors, strong color ability, and special interaction with many materials. We will slowly discuss its applications. 1. Textile printing and dying industry
Basic Yellow 57 has a very important and widespread use in textile printing and dyeing. Basic Yellow 57’s alkaline and cationic properties allow it to be compatible with certain fiber materials. This makes it easy to color.

let’s discuss the dyeing process for acrylic fiber. Basic Yellow 57, a dye that is used to dye acrylic fibers, is the key. Basic Yellow 57, when dissolved in a solution of water, will turn into positively charged cations.

Think about it, positive and negative charges will definitely attract each other. When they come into contact, they will tightly stick together through super strong ionic bonds. The clothes dyed in this way are not easy to lose color, whether they are washed or worn regularly, and have a high coloring rate. They can be dyed in different shades of yellow, from bright lemon yellow to darker ginger yellow. Whether it is pure acrylic clothing or fabrics blended with acrylic and other fibers, it can be used to color the acrylic part.

There is also the dyeing of modified polyester. The polyester clothes we usually wear were not easy to dye, but in order to improve this, we have polyester that can be colored with cationic dyes. When making this polyester, a third monomer containing sulfonic acid groups is added, which makes it similar to acrylic fiber and can bind with cationic dyes such as Basic Yellow 57 through ionic bonds.

Dyeing this type of polyester with Basic Yellow 57 does not require high temperature or pressure, nor does it require the use of special carriers, resulting in bright and non fading yellow colors, which is particularly convenient.

Basic Yellow 57 is also suitable for dyeing silk and wool. Although they are normally dyed using acid dyes. Basic Yellow 57 can bind to carboxyl anion on these fibers. Although its adhesion on acrylic is weaker, it can create special color effects and can sometimes be combined with different dyes to produce different colors.

When dyeing blended fabrics such as acrylic-wool blends or acrylic-silk blends we can use Basic Yellow and acid dyes in order to color the different fibers individually. It is possible to dye fibers together in the same dye bath, reducing the amount of time and effort required to color them individually.

Paper coloring and paper making
Basic Yellow 57 is also used in the paper industry to produce various colored papers.

You can dye all kinds of papers, including the decorative and high-end papers we use.

It has cationic properties and can bond well with negatively charged cellulose fibers in pulp, resulting in a high proportion of dye remaining on the paper, less waste, and less dye residue in wastewater. The color of the dyed paper is also particularly uniform.

There are also tissues and some specialty papers. Some household papers and special craft papers require bright colors. Basic Yellow 57 is a good choice because it dissolves well in water and has strong coloring ability. And it must comply with safety regulations related to food contact materials, which is also an important prerequisite for its use in this field.

Basic Yellow 57 is a valuable tool in biomedical and scientific fields. It is not only a simple dye but also a biological dye and fluorescent dye.
Let’s start with cell nuclei and DNA staining. Basic Yellow 57, a fluorescent dye with a long history, emits dazzling fluorescence under certain wavelengths of light. It can bind to DNA and RNA molecules within cells by embedding, or through electrostatic interactions. This is why it’s used in cell biology research as a fluorescent dye for nuclei.

Researchers can use this feature to observe the appearance of cells, count the number of cells, analyze the cell cycle, and observe the morphological changes of cell nuclei during apoptosis under a fluorescence microscope.

In terms of microbial staining and detection, it can be used to stain bacteria, yeast and other microorganisms in microbiological research, making it easier to observe and identify them under a microscope.
There is also clinical cytology analysis.
When examining cells in some body fluids, adding Basic Yellow 57 allows pathologists to quickly and clearly determine whether there are abnormal cells in the sample.

 Ink and writing fluid manufacturing
Basic Yellow 57 is still an important raw material for making various inks.

Like a fluorescent marker pen, it is a key component for making yellow and yellow green fluorescent marker ink due to its bright color and fluorescent properties. Writing with this ink on paper is particularly eye-catching in color and suitable for highlighting key points.
In terms of ink for inkjet printers, some professional inkjet printers require high color saturation, and Basic Yellow 57 can be used to make yellow ink, especially when printing photos and high-quality graphics, the effect is very good.
In addition, some special ballpoint pen inks and liquid seal inks that require high color vividness will also use it for blending.

Paint and Painting Industry
In coatings, solvent based and water-based wood paints can be used to create transparent yellow coloring paints, which can be used to color and decorate wooden furniture, highlight the texture of the wood itself, and make the furniture look better.
In terms of artistic pigments, it can be made into organic color lakes to produce the yellow series in watercolor, acrylic pigments, and oil painting pigments, providing artists with more color choices. And it has bright colors and high transparency, making it suitable for painting techniques such as cover dyeing.

 Leather dyeing
Basic Yellow 57 can also be used to dye leather products during leather processing.
Especially for leather products that require bright yellow color, such as leather for making clothes, furniture, and decorative leather, it can be used. It can bind with the carboxyl groups on leather collagen, and the dyeing effect is quite good.
