Description
Benzidine is a powdery white or light-red crystalline powder when it’s at room temperature. It is alkaline and has a low solubility with water. However, it can be dissolved in many organic solvents, such as ethanol acetone ether and benzene.
Structure:
The molecular structures of Benzidine contain two benzene rings. This gives the molecule a planar structure and polarity. It is white or pale yellow in color. The molecular structure of Benzidine contains many aromatic bonds, including non-polar CH bonds, with high bond energies. This results in a higher melting point and boiling point.
The benzene rings and nitrogen atoms in the molecule are stable, so Benzidine has a high level of stability. The compound also has some UV absorption and fluorescent properties that can be used to prepare fluorescent indicators and optical material.

White or slightly reddish crystalline powder. The melting point is 125, the boiling point is 400 (98.7kPa), and relative density of 1.250 (20/4). It dissolves easily in boiling ethanol, dilute hydrochloric acids, and acetic acid. The color darkens with air and light.
