As an adjuvant treatment, calcium gluconate can be used for allergic conditions such as urticaria, eczema, pruritus and contact dermatitis. Hypocalcemia can also cause seizures and magnesium poisoning. It is used to prevent and treat calcium deficiency disorders.
Calcium gluconate is a calcium organic acid. It is used to treat calcium deficiency and hand and foot twitching due to hypocalcemia and alkalosis.
1. Active intravenous calcium treatment is required for acute hypocalcemia, such as convulsions of the hands and feet, epileptic seizures and laryngeal cramps. Recommend a slow intravenous 10% Calcium gluconate infusion (10-20ml), which can relieve symptoms almost immediately. If symptoms return, repeat the treatment several hours later.
2. Treatment for mild hypomagnesemia involves limiting magnesium consumption. It is recommended that patients with severe hypomagnesemia slowly inject 10ml 10% Calcium gluconate to counteract magnesium’s effects on the heart and the neuromuscular system.
3. If hyperkalemia affects the heart, 10ml 10% Calcium gluconate is administered intravenously. The calcium gluconate injection is administered slowly and dose is adjusted according the ECG.
