Description

Coomassie Blue is a uniform dark blue powder. When dissolved in water, it turns purple. Addition of concentrated hydrochloric acids turns blue and addition of concentrated sodium hydroxide changes the color to red, orange and brown. Coomassie Blue is insoluble in organic solvents. It is slightly soluble (with a light red color) in ethanol, but not insoluble. The color is dark green when it’s diluted in sulfuric acid, and turns blue in the concentrated form. It becomes purple with concentrated nitric acids and turns orange. Second, solubility can be a key physical property. Coomassie Blue is easily soluble and transparent in water. It is also soluble with polar organic solvents like ethanol. Its aqueous dyeing solution has a stable performance. Coomassie Blue is a stable color, both physically and chemically. The properties of Coomassie blue are stable at room temperature and under pressure. It is not easily decomposed. It is also not volatile and has a low hygroscopicity. In terms of other physical characteristics, Coomassie has a melting point that is similar to the general synthetic dyes. These physical properties determine in practical applications that acid navy R is suitable to dye protein fibers like wool, silk nylon and polyamide fibers.

The application of Coomassie blue

Coomassie blue, as a classic blue black acid dye, plays an irreplaceable role in multiple industrial fields due to its deep color, good uniformity, important chromatography, and relatively good wet treatment fastness.

1、 Textile dyeing field

Coomassie blue can be used for dyeing wool yarn, sweaters, woolen fabrics, blankets, carpets, and more. It can form ionic bonds with the amino groups on wool fibers and combine with van der Waals forces to dye a pure and full navy blue color.

Coomassie blue is a key component dye for obtaining medium to dark shades of blue, especially black, navy blue, dark gray, and other colors, whether it is spot dyeing or loose hair dyeing. Its dyeing process is mature and usually carried out in acidic dyeing baths.

Coomassie blue can also be used for dyeing silk fabrics and silk products. It has a good affinity for silk, and after dyeing, the fabric feels soft and has an elegant luster, which can showcase the noble texture of silk while providing a deep blue color. PH control is gentler than wool.

It can also be used for coloring various leather products. It combines with the amino groups on leather collagen, has good permeability, can achieve uniform dyeing, and gives leather a classic deep blue appearance.

Polyamide fiber dyeing is an important application area of Coomassie blue in modern textiles. Used for nylon fabrics, nylon stockings, carpet silk, hiking ropes, fishing nets, etc. Nylon fibers contain amino groups at the end, which can bind with dyes.

Coomassie blue has a high saturation value for nylon dyeing, can achieve deep and rich colors, and has excellent wear resistance and certain sun fastness, making it very suitable for textiles that require high strength and durability.

Coomassie blue can color two types of fibers simultaneously. Although there may be slight differences in dyeing speed and hue, good color matching can be achieved through process control, making it a common choice for dyeing dark colors in such blended products.

2、 Material coloring

Coomassie blue can be used as a coloring agent for paper, especially for producing decorative paper of specific colors, gift wrapping paper, or special paper that needs to be dyed. Good water solubility, easy to evenly disperse in pulp, can give paper a bright and lasting blue color. However, due to the fact that Coomassie blue is an anionic dye with low directness to plant fibers, it usually requires the use of mordants or fixatives to improve retention.

Coomassie blue can also be used to manufacture inks, especially some colored inks and marker ink, providing a stable blue color.

3、 As an intermediate color or color blocking component

This is a key application of Coomassie blue in technology. In textile dyeing, it is rare to use a single dye to achieve the desired color.

Pure black acid dyes often lack sufficient blackness or are expensive. In practice, Coomassie blue is often used as the main color, mixed with a small amount of acid yellow and acid red to create a full and deep navy blue or black color.

This color blocked black has a stronger sense of layering and depth than single dye black, and the tone of the black light can be fine tuned by adjusting the proportions.
