Description

P-Phenylenediamine is also known as Urse D. It is one of the most basic aromatic diamines. In its pure form, it is a white to light-purple red crystal that turns purple or dark brown upon exposure to air. It is slightly soluble in water at room temperature, but it is soluble also in ethanol and chloroform. It is used for aramid, azo dyes and sulfur dyes. Also, it can be used as a photo developer, rubber anti-aging agent, fur dyeing agent, and to make polymer materials. It can be used to produce aramid, azo, sulfur, and acid dyes. Also, it is used as a developer, gasoline polymerization inhibitor, and a raw-material for the Ulsi D hair dye series. P-Phenylenediamine is a chemical dye that can be used to make hair dyes, but its use has clear restrictions. According to China’s “Hygienic Standards for Cosmetics”, P-phenylenediamine content in hair dyes should not exceed 6 percent. Experts say that even though the P-phenylenediamine content in five “one-wash black” shampoos varies from 1,1% to 1,4%, the frequent use of the shampoos and the accumulation over time can pose a serious threat to the health and safety of consumers. According to foreign studies, the risk of skin cancer, breast cancer and leukemia will rise among those who dye their hair frequently. P-Phenylenediamine, a sensitive reagent used to detect iron and copper, is another common reagent. It is used in coatings for aircraft, bulletproof vests, wall coatings and other applications. China began developing and producing P-phenylenediamine relatively early. In Jiangsu, Zhejiang and Jiangsu, there were more than 20 companies. In 2004, China’s total P-phenylenediamine production capacity was approximately 13500 tons. According to market research, the supply of P-phenylenediamine is generally higher than demand. Demand has increased at a rate between 3% and 5% since the 1990s. P-phenylenediamine is difficult to transport and produces pollution. This has limited its production.

The application of P-Phenylenediamine

The chemical formula of P-Phenylenediamine (C 6 H 4 NH 2) 2 is an aromatic diamine. It is used in many industries and everyday life due to its unique chemical properties.

1. The main raw materials used in the hair dye and cosmetics industries

P-phenylenediamine’s most common use is in oxidative hair colors. P-phenylenediamine is used in this application to create quinone imine intermediaries, which are then combined with coupling agents into stable macromolecular dyes that adhere to hair fibers.

The dye is resistant to washing and can cover white hair effectively. It also provides a range of natural tones, from dark brown to black. P-phenylenediamine can cause contact dermatitis and is a common allergen. Modern hair dye products control the concentration of this ingredient and recommend skin testing. It may also be found in temporary makeup products.

2.Key monomers in polymer materials, engineering plastics

P-phenylenediamine, a monomer used in the production of high-performance polymers, is a key component for materials science. As a main raw material for aromatic polyamides, P-phenylenediamine is the most widely used. It can, for example, be combined with benzoyl to create poly (p-phenylenediamine), P-phenylenediamine fibres, which are also called “aramid 1414”. This fiber is stronger, more heat resistant, has a higher modulus and is lighter than steel. This fiber is used for bulletproof vests and helmets as well as high-strength cords, aerospace composites materials, tire cords, and other applications.

P-phenylenediamine is also used to synthesize engineering resins, such as polyurea and polyimide, which are essential in fields like electronic insulation and high temperature coatings.

3. High-quality anti-aging agents in rubber and tire industries

Rubber industry derivatives of P phenylenediamine have proven to be highly effective and versatile anti-aging agents. Rubber products can crack and age due to heat and oxygen. P-Phenylenediamine can delay the oxidation of rubber and the aging caused by ozone, by capturing radicals and decomposing hydroperoxide. This improves tire durability, safety and service life. These agents are essential for the performance stability and durability of rubber products, including automotive tires, aviation tires, etc.

4.The dye and pigment industry has four intermediate levels.

P-phenylenediamine is a dye intermediate that can be used in the production of a variety of dyes including direct dyes and acid dyes. It is an important pre-cursor for the production of dispersed dark colors and blacks. Even though some of its applications are restricted due to increasing environmental demands, it still holds a position in the production certain specialty pigments and dyes. It can also be used for the production of oxidative dyes to dye fur and textiles.
