Description
Resorcinol is also known as 1,3-benzenediol. It is a binary organic compound. Resorcinol has a molecular structure of C6H6O2, where the two hydroxyls on the benzene rings are in the meta positions. Its structure indicates that it is an isomer of hydroquinone and catechol, but its chemical and physicochemical properties are different. The molecules are highly polar due to the two meta hydroxyl groups. This allows for hydrogen bonding networks to form between molecules. Physical Characteristics： Pure Resorcinol comes as a white or light pink powder with a distinct odor. It is highly soluble with water, polar organic solvents like ethanol, ether and glycerol but only slightly with benzene or carbon disulfide. Its excellent water solubility sets it apart from other phenolic compounds. The melting point of the compound is 110-112 and its boiling point is approximately 276.5.
